Tell YOUR governor to reject the extremism of Texas Gov. Rick Perry's The Response
On August 6, Texas Governor Rick Perry will host The Response, a massive rally in Houston that's being billed as a "a non-denominational, apolitical Christian prayer meeting." But one look at the event's sponsors, participants and promoters tells a different story.
Teaming up with Gov. Perry for this event are some of the country's most vicious anti-gay and anti-Muslim voices on the Far Right. It's bad enough that a high-profile elected official -- especially one with potential presidential aspirations like Perry -- is partnering with the extremists involved in organizing the event. But Gov. Perry has invited all of the country's state governors to participate in The Response.
Please add your name to our petition telling your governor to refuse the invitation and not to attend The Response.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry's The Response prayer rally is a troubling event for several reasons, not the least of which being the high number of extremists and purveyors of hate speech who are involved as sponsors and organizers (both organizations and individuals).
Public leaders should take no role in legitimizing the views of such extremists, and by participating in or attending this event, Gov. Perry is doing just that. Please refuse Gov. Perry's invitation to The Response and renounce the hate speech of the event's sponsors, such as the radical right-wing American Family Association.
