People For the American Way is proud to endorse U.S. Senator Patty Murray for reelection.
One of the Senate's strongest progressives, Sen. Murray has been a stalwart champion for women's rights, reproductive freedom, LGBT equality, public education and voting rights.
Sen. Murray cosponsored the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, and her bill to increase the Department of Veterans Affairs' focus on the physical, mental, and reproductive health of women veterans was recently signed into law by President Obama. She was a strong supporter of the recently-passed Hate Crimes Prevention Act, remains a fighter for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and cosponsored the bill to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
Sen. Murray understands both the devastating impact of the Roberts Court's awful 5-4 decision in Citizens United v. FEC and the need for corrective measures to undo the harm. She's a cosponsor of the much-needed (and Republican-obstructed) DISCLOSE Act, saying, "The Citizens United ruling has given special interest groups a megaphone that they can use to drown out the voices of citizens in my home state of Washington and across the country."
Washington's "top two" primary voting system means that Sen. Murray needs a strong showing this Tuesday. We hope you join us in throwing your unyielding support behind Sen. Murray so she can continue to fight for our shared values in the U.S. Senate.
